8 June - World Oceans Day

World Ocean Day is an international observance held every year on June 8 to raise awareness about the importance of the ocean for our planet and to encourage everyone to take action to protect it.

The ocean covers over 70% of the Earth’s surface, produces over 50% of the oxygen we breathe, and is home to millions of different species of plants and animals. However, our oceans face many challenges, including pollution, overfishing, and climate change, which can harm the health of our ocean ecosystems and the creatures that live in them.

On World Ocean Day, people worldwide come together to celebrate the ocean and learn more about how we can help protect it. Many organizations, such as schools, aquariums, and conservation groups, host events and activities to educate people about the ocean and the importance of taking care of it.

Some examples of activities that people might participate in on World Ocean Day include beach cleanups, educational workshops, and art contests focused on ocean conservation.

In addition to these activities, there are many things that individuals can do to help protect the ocean. For example, reducing plastic use, recycling properly, conserving water, and using environmentally-friendly products are all actions that can help reduce the amount of pollution that ends up in our oceans. Also, fishing responsibly, supporting sustainable seafood practices, and reducing carbon emissions are important steps that can help protect our oceans and the creatures in them.

World Ocean Day is an important reminder that we all have a role in protecting the ocean and ensuring its health for future generations. By learning about the ocean and taking action to protect it, we can help preserve this fantastic resource for years to come.
